Naomi is your NEW Women’s World Champion!
After a very long eight years, Naomi has won singles gold once again in WWE. Her last singles titles was in 2017 where she won the SmackDown Women’s Title at WrestleMania that year. She cashed in during the main event of Evolution when both the now-former champion IYO SKY and challenger Rhea Ripley were laid out from a Spanish Fly. Naomi took out Ripley first, making sure she was out of the ring, and then hit the split legged moonsault on SKY to win.
Prior to the cash in, SKY and Ripley were putting on another clinic between the two familiar opponents. Tensions heated up as Ripley was doing everything she could to defeat the one woman she hasn’t been able to defeat. Eventually, the referee was taken out which lead to the match taking a detour to the crowd and one would have thought this match had a stipulation to it. However, the two women took advantage of no referee available to dish out further punishment. This included SKY hitting a cross body from at least 20 feet in the air off of sound equipment and crashing down on Ripley.
After making it back to ringside, Ripley was tossed rib first into the announce table. Both women made it back in the ring as the referee was now upright. A Spanish Fly took them both down which led to Naomi’s music hitting and you know the rest.
Naomi was far from 100% as well. She lost earlier in the night in a grueling No Holds Barred match against her nemesis Jade Cargill. Bianca Belair was the special guest referee, showing major concerns for both women throughout the match. Naomi dominated most of the match, outside of a camera and toolbox spot by Cargill. Cargill would even go through a table but she would show adversity and land Naomi through a table of her own with Jaded to secure the win.
Elsewhere on Evolution, the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles were on the line in a Fatal Four-way. Roxanne Perez proved she belongs in the Judgment Day as she and Raquel Rodriguez retained the gold. Rodriguez pinned Sol Ruca to get the win after Perez took out Charlotte Flair on the outside. The match also included Flair/Alexa Bliss, ZaRuca, and The Kabuki Warriors.
Since Naomi is a SmackDown talent, everyone thought she had eyes on Tiffany Stratton to cash in on. Especially now that we know Stratton will be defending against Cargill at SummerSlam in three weeks.
Stratton retained the WWE Women’s Title against Hall of Famer, Trish Stratus. This was Stratus’ first singles title opportunity in 18 plus years since she retired from her initial run in 2006.
The final moments here, saw Stratus go fro a rare Moonsault of her own, but Stratton was able to get the knees up. After a kick to the side of the head, followed up by an Alabama Slam to the legend, Stratton landed her PME for the victory.
