Insider Reveals What He’s Hearing About Colts’ QB Battle

The Indianapolis Colts find themselves in the middle of a genuine quarterback battle that could define their season.

Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones are locked in a competition where neither player has established a clear separation through the early stages of training camp.

The organization likely hopes Richardson can seize the starting role. As a former top-five draft pick, his development remains crucial to the franchise’s long-term plans.

But the path forward won’t come easily for the young quarterback. NFL insider Cameron Wolfe recently provided insight into how the competition has unfolded.

“I spoke with someone in the Colts building today who said Anthony Richardson had his best day of training camp so far. Best of all the quarterbacks. He made quick reads, He was efficient, he took care of the ball, and ultimately showed why he could be the quarterback of the future. But, it is a true quarterback competition here with him and Daniel Jones. He and Daniel Jones have both been up and down, but this day kind of showed the spark, the hope of why Anthony Richardson was the guy they drafted in the top five some years ago, and they’re splitting it every day,” Wolfe said on The Insiders.

Richardson’s early camp struggles stemmed partly from shoulder soreness that limited his throwing capacity.

The gradual return to full-speed passes became necessary since he hadn’t thrown live to receivers in an extended period.

The coaching staff understands that staying healthy represents Richardson’s biggest challenge given his injury history.

Recent signs point toward growing confidence in his physical condition.

Richardson dropped approximately 10 pounds to reach 240, demonstrating his commitment to durability throughout a full season.

Meanwhile, Jones refuses to surrender the position without a fight.

The veteran quarterback has performed well enough to keep the competition legitimate.

Both players continue receiving equal opportunities to prove their worth.

The Colts appear content to allow this battle to play out naturally rather than forcing a premature decision.
