Naomi Pins Ripley In Triple Threat Opener; Bayley Causes Becky Lynch To Retain

The first two-night SummerSlam event concluded on Sunday. The show opened up with a show stopper Triple Threat as three of the biggest stars in wrestling battled it out for the Women’s World Championship. Naomi defended against Rhea Ripley and IYO SKY.

Naomi walked in as champion, with her father playing the guitar for her entrance and she would walk out still as champion.

The final moments of the match had Ripley trying to put away SKY to win the gold, and finally getting a win over the one woman she can’t pin. She went up top for an avalanche Riptide, but after landing it, getting a three count wasn’t happening. As Ripley had a count of two on SKY, Naomi scooped her up and got the pin from a roll up and a handful of tights.

Later on, the WWE Women’s Intercontinental Title was on the line. This match had a couple of stipulations. One, if Lyra Valkyria did not beat the champion Becky Lynch, then she won’t be able to go for the title again as long as Becky is champion. The second was making it a No DQ/No Count out match.

The match certainly lived up to the No DQ aspect. Both women had their moments in the match in dominating fashion. Valkyria was in charge early but Lynch turned the tables about midway through when she zip tied Valkyria’s hands together. She would wrestle most of the remainder of the match, including hitting a moonsault, without the use of her hands.

Eventually, Valkyria was able to get her hands free while underneath the ring. However, that small victory wasn’t enough as Lynch twisted her up in a steel chair and used that to ram her into the announce table. Completely out of it, Valkyria laid on the outside floor in the mashed up chair. Lynch went for the crowbar that Valkyria had at the start of the bout. As Lynch was about to end Valkyria, Bayley appeared and grabbed the weapon. Lynch tried to convince Bayley to use it on Valkyria.

Bayley wouldn’t go along with it and took her anger out on Lynch while screaming that Lynch took everything from her. Lynch would take out Bayley over the barricade. As Lynch went for a table that was already set up earlier in the match, Valkyria appeared out of nowhere crashing through the table with Lynch underneath.

Back in the ring, there was an exchange between finishers which caused Bayley to inadvertently strike Valkyria, giving Lynch the win.
