US Open 2025 results: Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid lose wheelchair doubles final

British pair Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid lost out on a championship tie-break against Gustavo Fernandez and Tokito Oda in the US Open men’s wheelchair doubles final.

Argentina’s Fernandez and Oda of Japan won 6-1 2-6 (10-6) to claim their first silverware at the US Open.

Hewett and Reid, who have won five doubles titles at Flushing Meadows, were seeking an 24th Grand Slam trophy together.

Englishman Hewett earlier lost 6-7 (4-7) 6-1 7-5 to Fernandez in the semi-finals of the wheelchair singles competition.

Wheelchair tennis is back in New York this year after organisers dropped it in 2024 due to a scheduling conflict with the Paralympics.

Fernandez and Oda raced through the opening set, winning five successive games to lay down an early marker.

But Englishman Hewett and Scotland’s Reid responded incredibly well with a couple of breaks in the second to force a deciding 10-point tie-break for the title.

The top seeds were unable to build further on that fightback and a Hewett forehand into the net handed victory to Fernandez and Oda.
